Chatra: Two persons were arrested on Sunday for their alleged role in the murder of Karamjeet Singh alias Vikas Kumar (25), who was shot dead on Friday night.The accused are Leela Devi and Rajesh Ghansi. Police said the murder was linked to a love affair and was allegedly carried out by hired shooters for a contract of Rs 5 lakh. The assailants, believed to be from the Piparwar area, have been identified and raids are underway to arrest them.Karamjeet, a resident of Salga village in Hazaribag district, was shot near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on Friday evening while returning home after attending a court hearing. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Sadar police registered a case against five persons, including the parents of the girl Karamjeet had an affair with.According to police, Karamjeet was in a relationship with a 16-year-old girl from Tandwa. When her family came to know about the affair, they married her off in April, 2024. A week later, Karamjeet and the girl eloped to Haridwar. The girl’s family then lodged a kidnapping case against Karamjeet after which he was arrested in May.The girl’s mother, Leela Devi, allegedly bought a pistol and cartridges from Ghansi for Rs 50,000 and arranged the contract killing in 2026. Sub-divisional police officer Sandeep Suman confirmed the arrests and said raids were ongoing to nab the other accused.
