CHENNAI : A 27-year-old kabaddi coach from Kannagi Nagar was booked for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old player three times over the past few months. The accused is absconding and police have launched a search.According to police sources, the accused had been running a girls’ kabaddi club in the locality for several years. The young girl, who lost her parents, lives with her grandmother.The matter came to light after her teammates noticed changes in her behaviour and talked to her about it. The girl opened up to them and shared that the coach had sexually assaulted her on three occasions between Jan and May this year.The latest incident reportedly occurred last week at the girl’s residence when she was by herself. She informed her grandmother that the coach had sexually assaulted her.They lodged a complaint at the Kannagi Nagar all women police station. Cases were registered a under three different sections including sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault against the accused.Police said the accused has been absconding since. Two special teams have been formed to trace and arrest him. As part of the investigation, police also plan to question all players who trained under the accused to ascertain whether any other girls may have been subjected to similar abuse. Investigation is under way.
