CHANDRAPUR: Days after a TOI report on the road-building efforts of residents of a Chandrapur hamlet, Ghodankappi, where a woman died in want of medical care, district administration has cleared Rs 57.46 lakh to provide connectivity. The proposed road linking Kolamguda to Ghodankappi is expected to provide reliable connectivity to the settlement near the Telangana border. On June 14, Sangeeta Gedam died after childbirth as an ambulance couldn’t reach her. TOI reported on Aug 17 how her husband, Tulsiram Gedam, like Bihar’s ‘mountain man’ Dashrath Manjhi, took up construction of the road through voluntary labour.Only 15 to 20 households currently reside in the hilly, remote hamlet. For years, residents were dependent on a rocky trail to access the main road, with conditions worsening during the monsoon.Local govt has now cleared funding for the project in two stages- Rs 12.76 lakh was approved on Aug 15 under VB-G RAM G scheme for earthwork and murum base. A proposal seeking Rs 44.7 lakh for remaining work was sent to the collector on Aug 17, who granted a nod on Aug 19. “Given the terrain and rainfall, a concrete road has been planned,” said an official.
