Thiruvananthapuram: College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) on Friday began an inspection of flats constructed for fishermen near Vizhinjam harbour to assess their structural condition, following complaints that portions of the building were deteriorating within seven years of being handed over to beneficiaries.Residents have reported plaster and portions of ceilings falling from the building, raising fears that the debris could injure occupants.The flats were constructed and handed over to the beneficiaries during the previous LDF-led corporation administration.Mayor V V Rajesh has raised concerns over possible irregularities in the construction and said the matter requires a detailed examination. The corporation is seeking a technical assessment to establish the nature and extent of the defects and determine whether there were lapses in construction. The mayor visited the flat complex late Friday.
