Chandigarh: The Centre has asked the Punjab govt and Delhi Police to provide Z-category security to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha within their jurisdictions, amid reports that his Z-plus cover provided by the Punjab govt had been withdrawn, revealed a communication sent to the Punjab govt on Wednesday. The communication from the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), which came to light on Thursday, said Chadha would be given Z-category security in Punjab and Delhi, and Y-category cover in other states and Union Territories. “The other states/UTs of India (except Punjab and Delhi) are requested to provide Y category security cover to Raghav Chadha,” the letter to the Punjab chief secretary stated. The correspondence was also marked to the Punjab DGP and Delhi Police. The communication said security arrangements for Chadha had been “examined in this ministry in consultation with the Central Security Agency”. The copy of the correspondence was also marked to Punjab DGP and the special commissioner of police (security), Delhi Police, among others.Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the letter had exposed Punjab govt’s move to withdraw Chadha’s security. “The move could be part of a conspiracy to facilitate another political killing similar to Sidhu Moose Wala,” he added.Referring to the Centre’s decision to grant security to Chadha, he said such protection was based on inputs from intelligence agencies. “In Punjab, security is being granted or withdrawn by ignoring IB and intelligence reports and favouring those aligned with the ruling party, which amounts to a serious violation of the policing system,” Majithia added.
