Kolkata: A local Diamond Harbour court has convicted an extortionist and sentenced him to life imprisonment after connecting the dots through CCTV footage in an attempt-to-murder case reported on March 5, 2023. The accused, Rejajul Laskar alias Choto Matal, fired twice on the chest of the victim, Nikhil Kumar Saha, a local trader in the Chatuganj Bazar area in Usthi in Diamond Harbour. Saha has been advised by doctors to carry the bullet in his body for the rest of his life to avoid health complications. “The CCTV footage of the shop was clear enough to show that the accused was firing at the victim,” saidspecial public prosecutor Bivas Chatterjee.
