New Delhi: Children studying in schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may soon get the opportunity to learn computational thinking and artificial intelligence as part of their studies. With the aim of building technological understanding among students at an early stage, CBSE is planning to introduce basic learning in computational thinking and artificial intelligence for students from Classes III to VII.The arrangement is proposed to be implemented from the 2026–27 academic session. According to officials, the proposal is based on a draft curriculum prepared by CBSE in line with NEP 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023.
Officials said a key feature of the initiative is that the learning process will minimise dependence on digital devices and focus more on paper-and-pen-based activities and project work. The curriculum will also be aligned with skills-based learning, NCERT textbooks, and the existing evaluation system.
For Classes VI to VIII, students will be introduced to elements of computational thinking along with basic concepts of artificial intelligence. This will include data literacy, logical analysis, simple statistical tools, and ethics of AI.
