Nagpur: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 board examinations began in Nagpur on Tuesday. Breaking from the usual trend of starting with a relatively easier subject, CBSE opened this year’s Class 10 exams with Mathematics — often considered one of the toughest papers.Despite initial anxiety, most students exited examination centres relieved. Many described the Mathematics paper as balanced and manageable, saying their pre-exam nervousness eased once they began attempting the questions.Approximately 10,000 students appeared for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 examination across the district. Although the exam began at 10.30am, candidates were required to report by 10 am. Students, accompanied by their parents, arrived at centres well in advance. Rupa Borekar, principal of a govt CBSE school, said the paper was of moderate difficulty. However, some students faced confusion over case-study-based questions.“Several students struggled with time management in the case-study section. They were required to attempt any three questions, but some misread the instructions and attempted all, losing valuable time. Overall, it was a well-set paper,” she said.Security arrangements were stringent across centres. Students underwent thorough checks before entering exam halls. Calculators and electronic devices were strictly prohibited; only admit cards and pens were allowed.CBSE Class 12 examinations will commence on Wednesday, with Chemistry as the first paper. Around 3,000 to 4,000 students from the district are expected to appear.Class 10 students will be permitted to appear for board examinations twice in the same academic year. The February–March exam will remain mandatory, while an optional improvement exam will be held in May. The higher score of the two attempts will be considered final.
