Bokaro: The anti-corruption unit of CBI in Dhanbad arrested two clerks of Central Coalfields Limited’s (CCL) Govindpur project in Kathara area for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000 from a retired employee to process his pending pension dues.The accused, identified as clerk Meghlal Mahto and pension-dealing clerk Mohammad Imtiaz, were allegedly caught red-handed during a trap laid by CBI.A K B Singh, the general manager of Kathara Area of CCL, confirmed the arrests. “The agency did not share further details with the CCL management,” he said.The complainant, Rasool Zama, a resident of Janta Nagar and a former employee of the survey department at Govindpur project, retired seven months ago. His pension-related payments were reportedly pending. According to sources, when he approached the two clerks for processing the dues, they allegedly demanded Rs 18,000 as a bribe.Zama subsequently approached CBI’s Dhanbad unit with a complaint. After verifying the allegations, the agency laid a trap. On Friday, the complainant allegedly handed over the bribe money to the accused inside the project office, following which a CBI team intervened and caught them on the spot. CBI is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
