Lucknow: In the aftermath of a massive fire that broke out at an under-construction hotel in Gomtinagar, the Lucknow fire department revealed that nearly 90 hotels in the city are operating without the mandatory fire safety no-objection certificate (NOC). Nagpur: To curb misuse of the free school admission scheme under Right to Education (RTE) Act, the state govt has decided to increase the scrutiny of income documents submitted by parents. One of the categories for free admissions to private schools is ‘economically weaker section’, for which parents have to submit proof of their income. Many parents submit an “income certificate” issued by district authorities, which can be obtained even on the basis of an affidavit.It is suspected that many parents, even those who are financially extremely well-off, avail of this free admission scheme under EWS. T’puram: A 56-year-old man was killed after a KSRTC bus rammed into his vehicle at Venjaramoodu on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was Jayachandran, a native of Konchira at Vempayam. The accident occurred at Koppam around 4.30pm.Police said Jayachandran was travelling towards Vempayam when the KSRTC bus, heading from the opposite direction towards Venjaramoodu, collided with his scooter. Navi Mumbai: The Anti-narcotics cell (ANC) team of the Navi Mumbai crime branch succeeded in arresting a drugs supplier from Amritsar, Punjab, who was transporting heroin and opium to Navi Mumbai through drug peddlers by road transport.
