Vadodara: Two men were arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths in Dahod on Monday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a beneficiary of the PM Awas Yojana.According to police, the accused are Jayesh Patel, an engineer with the affordable housing mission of Jhalod municipality and Manu Vasaiya, a businessman.The complainant had been allotted a house under the PM Awas Yojana in Jhalod. Varanasi: Two youths were killed and another suffered critical injuries when their motorcycle collided with a truck on Gorakhpur-Varanasi four-lane highway near Audihar village under Saidpur police station in Ghazipur district late on Sunday.Ghazipur CO (Saidpur) Shubham Verma on Monday said that three youths riding a motorcycle were passing through Audihar turning, when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck coming from opposite direction. Kolkata: Five days after an 86-year-old man was fatally run over while taking an evening walk inside Uniworld City complex in New Town, police on Sunday arrested a 47-year-old woman who was allegedly learning to drive an SUV when it veered out of a parking area and ploughed into pedestrians.The deceased, Sribas Chandra Ojha, was walking with the assistance of an attendant when the SUV hit him and two others around 6.45pm on Tuesday. Srinagar, Aug 10: The Centre has sharply reduced its allocation for elementary education in Jammu & Kashmir under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, with the provision falling to Rs 633.53 crore for 2026-27.The allocation represents a decline of nearly 38 per cent from Rs 1,017.75 crore sanctioned for 2025-26. It is also significantly lower than the Rs 1,180.11 crore allocated in 2024-25 and Rs 1,234.55 crore in 2023-24.The figures were placed before the Lok Sabha by Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi in response to a starred question concerning the allocation and utilisation of funds for primary education.For 2026-27, J&K’s allocation is considerably lower…

Kalyan: As many as 107 new dog bite cases were reported to the Rukminibai municipal hospital in Kalyan on Monday, a rise from 58 cases reported on Sunday, civic officials informed.Dr Deepa Shukla, medical health officer, KDMC, said 107 cases were reported at Kalyan of which 12 cases were from the station premises. BengaluruCancer hospital chain HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG) nearly tripled its profit to Rs 16.5 crore in the June quarter from about Rs 6 crore a year ago, driven by higher patient volumes and capacity expansion.Total income rose 14% year-on-year to Rs 707 crore, from Rs 620 crore in the year-ago quarter. Patient volumes increased 11%, while average revenue per patient grew 2%.Growth was strongest in eastern India, where revenue rose 22%, followed by the south at 16%. Hyderabad: Nearly six lakh applications have been filed for Family Register Certificates in Telangana as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls enters a crucial phase, with about 2.8 lakh applications still under process, according to data available with the state authorities.Exclusive data obtained by TOI shows that of the approximately 5.97 lakh applications filed for the certificates, around 3.15 lakh have been approved and about 2,100 rejected, while nearly 2.8 lakh applications remain under process.
