Pune: The Kalewadi police have registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against the parents and relatives of an 18-year-old accused in a murder attempt case to get him out on bail.On Jan 25 this year, the suspect and his three accomplices assaulted a manager (28) of a fuel station in Rahatani following heated arguments. The Kalewadi police registered a case of murder attempt and were searching for them. On June 10, police arrested the 18-year-old of Ambethan in Rajgurunagar in Khed taluka.“The suspect was 18 years old at the time of the incident. At the time of his arrest, he was 18 years and four months old,” the officer said.He stated that the court verified the suspect’s school leaving certificate and Aadhaar card, and then sent him to Yerawada Central Prison. “However, on June 13, the suspect’s relatives and lawyer furnished documents before the court, claiming that the arrested suspect was a minor. They requested that the court send him to a correctional home. The youth’s mother and maternal uncle also submitted an affidavit before the court claiming the suspect was a minor and was born in 2009 and not 2007,” he said. The parents of the suspect submitted original documents as proof of the suspect’s age, so the court directed the police to verify the documents and submit a report.“Our team went to the school at Tapkirnagar in Kalewadi and discovered that the suspect’s parents, on June 12, went to the school and requested the authorities to change the birth year of the suspect for his future education,” the officer said.He mentioned that when the school authorities asked for the student’s record from the previous school, his parents showed a leaving certificate from a private English medium school, where the suspect had studied until Std IX. “Based on that, the school in Tapkirnagar issued a school leaving certificate and a bonafide certificate by changing the dates,” he said. The officer stated that when the police carried out inquiries at the English medium school, the school authorities informed the police that the suspect’s parents, on June 12, approached them and requested to change the dates on the school leaving certificate.“The school authorities told us that they refused to make changes, but later, the parents submitted a leaving certificate by illegally changing the dates of a Rahatni-based school, where the suspect earlier studied before joining the English medium school. Following this, the authorities at the English medium school made the changes in the certificate and issued a new one to the parents,” the officer said.Investigations revealed that an employee at the school in Rahatani made changes illegally to the certificate.“Meanwhile, it was also confirmed that the suspect’s relative had registered the suspect’s name in the gram panchayat office within a month after his birth in 2007,” he said. The officer stated that the police registered a case under sections 318 (cheating), 336 (forgery), and 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) against the suspect’s relatives and an employee from his school in Rahatani. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
