New Delhi: Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) Wednesday summoned all deputy commissioners of MCD for Oct 12 after high levels of visible road dust and accumulation of C&D waste were found on 25 road stretches of Ring Road. MCD has 12 deputy commissioners for respective zones.The commission observed that public complaints regarding dust pollution in Delhi have also been received through social media, with a total of 500 complaints related to PWD and 1,711 complaints related to MCD till Oct 4.CAQM’s four flying squad teams on Oct 3 inspected PWD roads that are cleaned by MCD. During the inspection, 17 violations of highly visible road dust and accumulation of C&D waste were reported.The commission said that in May, it directed all dust control and management cells to initiate a special campaign for the identification, removal and scientific disposal of legacy dust from roads, roadsides, medians and footpaths before and after the monsoon season. CAQM said that during various review meetings, MCD was directed to undertake a deep cleaning drive after the monsoon.“Despite the directions and orders issued by the commission, MCD has not taken proper action to ensure complete mitigation of dust from roads and open areas. All deputy commissioners have been asked to appear before the commission on Oct 12 to explain what action has been taken against officials concerned or agencies for violations of orders of the commission,” said CAQM.
