NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday targeted the BJP-led Bihar government over the ongoing student agitation against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Gandhi condemned the police lathicharge on students and urged the state government to address their concerns.
Pointing out that students have been protesting the alleged irregularities in BPSC recruitment exams for a long time, Gandhi said: “But instead of answering, what is the government doing? It’s wielding batons and water cannons. It’s taking students into custody. In Siwan, there was even firing with an AK-47 on protesters. This is not just a question of police action. This is a question of the mindset of BJP government, which has no answers, and that’s why it’s turning police into a weapon to evade accountability”.
He said the state government should understand that it cannot silence students with batons. “The students of Bihar will keep asking questions. And now, it’s not just answers they want, they demand accountability.”
