The association hailed the TN CM for opting for political engagements

Mysuru: Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association president Kurubur Shanthakumar on Saturday welcomed Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay C Joseph’s decision to hold direct talks with chief minister D K Shivakumar on Aug 3 to discuss the issue related to the Cauvery water-sharing dispute, construction of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir, among other issues.In a press release, Shanthakumar hailed the TN CM for opting for political engagements instead of his predecessors, who maintained that the disputes should be resolved through judicial mechanism.Reviving a dialogue between the two states, in particular during distressed years, is a right step to find an amicable, mutually respectable solution to the vexed Cauvery river water-sharing dispute in the larger interest of farmers.

Both CMs must constitute a joint technical committee involving weather experts, irrigation and law experts, collect satellite-based information about the availability of water in Cauvery river basin district dams, and take a decision about sharing water, he said.
