Itanagar: A pall of grief hung heavy over Itanagar on Friday as hundreds joined a mass candlelight rally demanding justice for Yapi Potom, a young teacher whose killing has shaken Arunachal Pradesh.According to reports, Potom was murdered between 11pm and 11.30pm on April 7, when the accused, identified as Daksen (Dagsen) Riram, allegedly attacked her with a dao near her home in ESS Sector, Itanagar, before fleeing the spot. The sheer brutality of the incident has left residents in shock and fear.Riram was later arrested by the police.The rally was organised by the Kargu Kardi Welfare Society (KKWS) and Lodu Ao Welfare Society (LAWS), along with the Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ITA), Itanagar Capital Region, and supported by several community organisations and members of the public.In a heart-wrenching appeal, the victim’s father broke down while recalling his daughter’s role in the family. “She was the backbone of our family,” he said.The organisations demanded swift justice and immediate compensation for the bereaved family. Special emphasis was placed on the future of Potom’s two minor children, who have been left without their mother. KKWS and LAWS urged the govt to step in with urgent rehabilitation measures, including financial assistance, educational security, and psychological counselling to help them cope with the trauma.
