Gadchiroli: The district administration and Canara Bank signed an MoU on Tuesday under which the bank will provide Rs 72 lakh for nutritional support to tuberculosis (TB) patients across Gadchiroli district.The MoU was signed at the collector’s office in the presence of district collector Avishyant Panda and the bank’s divisional assistant manager Mrityunjay Kumar Jha, under the Centre’s Nikshay Mitra initiative, with Canara Bank registering as a Nikshay Mitra.Nutritional support for TB patients was earlier provided on a pilot basis only in mining-affected areas covered under District Mineral Foundation funds. The scheme will now extend to TB patients in northern Gadchiroli, outside DMF’s jurisdiction, officials said.Nutrition kits will be distributed regularly, which would improve recovery. Distribution will be carried out via women’s SHGs under Umed Abhiyan via local sub-centres, with the groups handling procurement, packing and distribution, officials added, giving them a new source of income.
