LUDHIANA: The deportation of key operative Karamveer Singh Deo from Canada marks a significant breakthrough for Punjab Police in smashing a vital international logistical network of La-wrence Bishnoi’s gang.Deo of Bahadurke, wanted in connection with at least three cases in Ludhiana, was returned to India on Tuesday.Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) records indicate he faces five FIRs alleging murder, attempted murder, extortion, cheating, and forgery.Police allege Deo played a central role in securing forged travel documents for members of Lawrence’s gang, including his brother Anmol, who fled India while wanted for the murder of singer Shubhdeep Singh ‘Sidhu Moosewala’.The AGTF said Mohali police had registered an FIRunder charges of extortion, forgery, and the Passport Act against Lawrence Bishnoi, Deo, and several associates, leading to six arrests, so far.They report that Deo previously shot Gurwinder Singh ‘Bunty Bajwa’ over a municipal election dispute on June 10, 2012.After securing bail from the Nabha jail, Deo used a fraudulent passport to flee abroad, later escaping from the US using forged documents in 2020. While overseas, Deo allegedly arranged housing and logistics for Lawrence’s gang.His international profile emerged publicly in 2023 when a video from his wedding featured Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and Sherry Mann, performing alongside Anmol Bishnoi and Deo.Deo’s criminal record in Ludhiana dates to 2012, beginning with the murder of a former sarpanch’s husband, Gurwinder Singh. He was subsequently charged in 2014 with cheating and forgery at the Haibowal police station.On June 20, 2026, police nominated Deo in a case of attempted murder following a shooting during a property dispute in Salem Tabri.Foreign police had investigated Deo after shots were fired at the house of singer A P Dhillon, though a local court later cleared him of involvement in that incident.A senior police officer said: “Karamveer is a key operative of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang and has a long association with its boss. Since fleeing abroad, Karamveer has sheltered Lawrence’s henchmen and provided them with logistics to execute crime.”The officer added: “Karamveer would be questioned on how and who all he helped by arranging fake passports to escape abroad after crime,”
