Canacona: Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar said the people’s dream of seeing NH 66 through Canacona upgraded to a four-lane road will become a reality with the start of work on the Bendurdem-Canacona stretch. The upgrade will reduce travel time between Canacona and Margao to 30 minutes.Tawadkar said that soon after the Manohar Parrikar Canacona bypass road became a reality, approval was given within six months to construct Bendurdem Char-rasta and the road from Mashem to Polem.Centre has sanctioned Rs 952 crore for the 22-km bypass project. Officials said the work has already been awarded to the contractor in Jan.The expansion of NH-66 from Bendordem to the start of the Canacona bypass forms an integral part of the Mumbai-Kanyakumari four-lane corridor.While the tree felling has begun, land filling and other related works will start in Oct.
