NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and leader of opposition in the Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, on Wednesday said the Mahagathbandhan might consider boycotting the upcoming assembly elections, citing irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.“That too can be discussed. We will see what the people want and what everyone’s opinion is,” Yadav told IANS when asked if a poll boycott was on the table.Earlier in the day, dramatic scenes unfolded in the Bihar assembly after Yadav, wearing a black T-shirt in protest, was allowed to speak on the EC’s exercise. His remarks questioning the timing and intent of the revision triggered a sharp intervention by chief minister Nitish Kumar, who dismissed the allegations and accused the RJD of doing “nothing” during its time in power.“You are a child. You know nothing… Whatever rubbish you want to speak, say it during elections,” Kumar snapped, drawing jeers from the opposition benches. As the exchange escalated, Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav adjourned the House just 30 minutes into the session. He expressed dismay at both sides, reprimanding Deputy CM Vijay Sinha for shouting and asking RJD MLA Bhai Virendra to apologise for using unparliamentary language. At a press conference later, Tejashwi questioned the EC’s decision to delist names of voters not found at their registered addresses and accused the BJP of using the voter roll revision to manipulate the upcoming polls. “What about the 4.5 crore people who work outside Bihar and return only during elections?” he asked. He also claimed that 55 lakh voters had already been declared ‘missing’ in the EC’s records and said, “If the BJP wants to run the government using fake voter lists, then just give them an extension. What’s the point of holding elections?”
