Kolkata: Responding to Trinamool Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra’s repeated barbs, rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Wednesday said that calling the dissident MPs “traitors” is deeply offensive and “undermines democratic discourse”. In a Facebook post, Ghosh Dastidar said, “Disagreement, dissent and conscientious objection are not acts of betrayal. They are recognised features of a healthy parliamentary democracy.”“In our constitutional framework, voters elect both the candidate and the political party. An electoral mandate is not the exclusive property of a party leadership; it is conferred by the people upon their chosen representatives. These concerns cannot be dismissed through personal attacks by Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra on those who choose to speak out,” she added.
