Koraput: In a major step to ease traffic congestion along the busy NH-26 passing through Jeypore town, the district administration has decided to declare the stretch from Main Traffic Chowk to Parabeda Chhak a no-parking zone for passenger buses from June 1.The decision was taken at a recent meeting convened by the administration with police officials and representatives of the Bus Owners’ Association following growing public concern over frequent traffic snarls, particularly during the evening hours, caused by the unauthorized parking of buses on the highway for picking up and dropping passengers.Sub-collector (Jeypore )Jadumani Nayak, SDPO (Jeypore ) Archita Mittal, officials of the transport department and members of the Bus Owners’ Association attended the meeting. The association assured the administration of its full cooperation in implementing the decision. As per the new regulation, buses will not be allowed to park along the designated stretch for prolonged periods for passenger boarding and deboarding. Officials said the practice had been causing severe congestion on the highway and inconvenience to commuters.Speaking on the decision, SDPO Archita Mittal said, “A special enforcement squad will be formed to ensure strict implementation of the no-parking regulations. Regular monitoring will be carried out, and action will be taken against buses found violating the order.”The administration said the move aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and improve road safety along the busy highway corridor. The decision has been welcomed by residents and daily commuters who have long complained about traffic jams caused by buses occupying the roadside during peak evening hours.“This is a very welcome decision. The unauthorized parking of buses on the highway often led to long traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters. If enforced properly, it will bring much-needed relief to the public and make travel safer,” said local resident Santosh Mishra.Authorities have appealed to bus operators to cooperate with the new traffic management measures and utilize designated locations for passenger boarding and deboarding.
