Balasore: Burglars allegedly decamped with gold and silver ornaments, religious articles and other valuables worth around Rs 5 lakh from multiple temples in Begunia village under Panapana gram panchayat in Balasore district.According to a written complaint lodged at Khantapada police station on Wednesday, the theft took place late Tuesday night at several places of worship in ward no. 5 of Begunia village. The targeted shrines include Baba Madan Jew Temple, Maa Mangala Temple, Maa Barunei Temple and the deity’s shrine at Harihat House.The complainants alleged that the stolen items include gold crowns, gold ornaments, Lord Krishna’s flute, silver jewellery and other valuables used for worship. The total value of the stolen property was estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh.After receiving the complaint, a team from Khantapada police station visited the village and conducted a preliminary investigation. Police also questioned local residents to gather information about the incident.Investigating officer Amita Das said police have registered the case in this connection and further investigation is underway. A scientific team is likely to examine the crime scene as part of the investigation, she added.
