Ahmedabad: City police arrested a 37-year-old man from Kalupur and recovered Rs 14 lakh in cash within hours of a burglary at a handloom shop in Sindhi Market, police said on Sunday.The complaint was lodged by the owner of the shop in Revdi Bazaar, who told police that he and his family have been running the business for nearly 30 years. According to the FIR, the shop was closed around 6pm on July 24. The next morning, the market watchman informed the owner that shutter of shop had been damaged.When the owner reached the shop, he found that one side of the shutter had been pulled away from the wall and the cash kept in an unlocked safe was missing.

He initially estimated the loss at around Rs 4.5 lakh but told police the exact amount would be verified through the accounts. During the investigation, police found that nearly Rs 20 lakh in cash had been stolen.The Local Crime Branch of Zone-3 formed multiple teams to investigate the case. Police analysed CCTV footage, technical evidence and human intelligence to identify the suspect’s movements before and after the burglary.Acting on a tip-off, the LCB intercepted the accused outside the entrance of Kalupur railway station while he was allegedly preparing to leave Gujarat. Police recovered Rs 14 lakh in cash and a mobile phone from his possession. Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining stolen money.
