Srinagar, Aug 14: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Friday raised concerns over civic amenities and development in the Chanapora constituency, alleging that several areas continue to face a shortage of basic facilities.
Bukhari was chairing a meeting with party leaders, senior workers and prominent members from the constituency at the party headquarters in Sheikh Bagh, Srinagar.
Participants apprised him of various public issues, including inadequate water supply, power shortages, inflated electricity bills, poor drainage and lack of basic amenities in several areas.
They alleged that development works and public facilities were being provided on the basis of political affiliation, with areas perceived to support the ruling party allegedly receiving preference.
Residents of Umar Colony and adjoining areas highlighted inadequate water supply, while members from Nadergund and nearby localities raised concerns over civic infrastructure.
The participants also flagged the condition of Chanapora Hospital, saying the facility lacked adequate infrastructure, equipment and professional manpower despite catering to a large population.
Addressing the meeting, Bukhari said the developmental deficit was not confined to Chanapora but was visible across Srinagar city.
He alleged that despite Srinagar giving a strong mandate to the ruling party, the government had failed to provide basic facilities to residents.
Bukhari said inadequate housing, unemployment, lack of livelihood opportunities and weak public infrastructure remained among the major concerns facing Srinagar.
Meanwhile, several political and social activists joined the Apni Party during the meeting. Among those who joined were former NC worker Abdul Majeed Wani from Rawalpora Bagwanpora and Younis Mushtaq Sheikh from Mehjoor Nagar. Bukhari and other party leaders welcomed the new entrants.
