Prayagraj: District unit of Samajwadi Party on Wednesday called the state budget 2026-27 presented by the UP finance minister Suresh Khanna on Wednesday, an “anti-people, directionless and disoriented budget”.“While the govt made lofty claims, the budget was completely disconnected from ground realities. People of the state are struggling with inflation, unemployment and farm distress but the budget offered no concrete solutions to these fundamental problems. The state’s youth were wandering from door-to-door in search of employment, but the budget lacked a clear plan for creating permanent jobs,” party spokesperson Dan Bahadur Madhur said. He said the govt was juggling figures and merely repeating announcements in the name of development. “If the budget was truly in the public interest, concrete provisions would have been made to provide relief to villages, farmers, labourers and small businesses,” he said. He said the announced provisions for the agricultural sector were insufficient. Party leaders said the govt’s policy on issues such as minimum support price, irrigation, availability of fertilisers and seeds, and doubling farmers’ income was not clear. The Samajwadi Party demanded that a separate, effective plan was implemented to ensure farm loan waivers, free irrigation, and fair prices for agricultural produce. In the field of education and health, the party called the budget disappointing. Leaders said concrete financial provisions were not made to improve the condition of govt schools and hospitals. “There was a severe shortage of doctors and teachers in rural areas, which the govt should have addressed. Many public welfare schemes launched during the Samajwadi govt were either discontinued or weakened by the current govt,” they said.
