Kolhapur: The Kolhapur police nabbed an BTech student and is friend for possessing methamphetamine drug and hydroponically produced ganja totally worth Rs10 lakh.The arrested individuals are Shahid Ibrahim Mokashi (21), resident of Ainapur in Gadhinglaj tehsil, of Kolhapur district, and his friend Abrahim Jockey Gonsalves (23), resident of Mukt Sainik Vasahat, in Kolhapur. The latter is resident of Goa state but is residing in Kolhapur on rent.The police arrested both from the vicinity of a well-known management college in Kolhapur city. The quantity of MD drug seized is 33.540g and hydroponic ganja is 31.31g. The police suspect that both were attempting to sale the drugs to college students.Assistant police inspector Sachin Chandan said, “For the first time, we have encountered the possession and attempt of sale of hydroponic ganja. It is also called artificial ganja prepared in controlled temperature. It costs Rs1 crore for one kilogram. Gonsalves works in event management sector. Both the accused go to know eachother through sale of the narcotics. The police presented both before Kolhapur court on Saturday and got their custody for four days.The cop said that the forward and backward linkages of the drugs trade will be unearthed during the investigation. The police suspect that both were attempting to sale the drugs to college students.In June 2025, The local crime branch of Kolhapur police arrested eight people from four districts — Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, and Solapur — for their alleged involvement in ganja smuggling.Earlier this month, the police arrested Manish Nagori, a criminal-on-record mainly indulging in illegal trade of firearms after recovering 835g of banned methamphetamine, worth Rs 26 lakh, from two vehicles belonging to him. The arrest followed a probe into a shooting in which a man on bail was shot at by another person who is in custody.
