Kolkata: A 38-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was found dead with a gunshot wound near the India-Bangladesh border at Bongaon in North 24 Parganas on Tuesday. Police said the deceased was identified as Santosh Kumar, a Kerala resident and a sepoy of the 67 Battalion of BSF. Kumar was taken to the Bongaon Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critically injured condition where doctors declared him dead soon after hospitalisation, police said. “Preliminary investigation suggests the jawan may have died by suicide using his service rifle. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be ascertained,” said a senior official of Bongaon district police.Investigators are probing if the jawan was under any psychological stress.
