Kolkata: Tension gripped Gangasagar in South 24 Parganas on Wednesday morning after unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire at 60-year-old BJP neta Trilokesh Dhali. He survived the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at the Sagar Rural Hospital.Police sources said the incident happened around 8 am when Dhali had stepped out to offer prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple as he did every day.When he was returning from the temple, two bike-borne miscreants opened fire at him and then pushed him to the ground, police said.Dhali collapsed in a pool of blood. Hearing gunshots, locals rushed to the scene and called the cops. Policemen rescued the BJP neta and rushed him to the hospital.Hospital sources said Dhali is stable but remains under strict medical observation. Police have initiated an investigation.Dhali’s family has alleged a political conspiracy behind the attack. His son, Trideep Dhali, said his father was expecting a BJP ticket for the assembly polls and alleged that miscreants backed by the governing party in the state were behind the attack.Mathurapur TMC MP Bapi Halder dismissed the allegation. “BJP has made it a habit to blame Trinamool for everything. This could also be the result of internal factionalism. We have asked the police to identify the real culprits and ensure strict punishment,” he said.
