Hyderabad: A delegation of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will meet Union heavy industries minister HD Kumara Swamy in New Delhi on July 15 to seek the revival of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant in Adilabad. The BRS delegation will include party working president KT Rama Rao, former minister Jogu Ramanna, BRS parliamentary party leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra and several other MLAs and MPs.The party leaders said reopening the CCI has been a long-pending demand of the people of Adilabad. The BRS said that while it was in power in Telangana, then chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had met the Prime Minister and Union ministers to seek for the revival of CCI. KTR, who was then serving as IT and industries minister, had also reportedly made several trips to Delhi and submitted letters to the Centre.“Despite the govt’s readiness to extend the necessary support and concessions for reviving the plant, the Centre has not taken any positive decision over the past 13 years,” the party said. The BRS further alleged that during the 2019 and 2024 elections, Union home minister Amit Shah and several BJP leaders had promised to reopen the CCI plant if a BJP MP from Adilabad was elected. “However, instead of honoring that promise, efforts are now being made to push the public sector unit towards privatisation,” the party alleged. The delegation will urge the Centre to immediately revive the CCI plant, saying it has been a longstanding demand of the people of Adilabad and has the potential to generate thousands of jobs for the district’s youth.
