LUCKNOW: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Lucknow Zonal Office, has provisionally attached an immovable property valued at Rs 53.46 lakh under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with a money laundering case involving Shamsul Huda Khan and others, the agency said. The attached property is a 189.75-square-metre residential land parcel located in Khalilabad, Sant Kabir Nagar district, and is registered in Khan’s name. The ED said its investigation was initiated based on multiple FIRs registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police under Sections 419, 420, 467, 471 and 120-B of the IPC, 1860, and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.According to the agency, Khan acquired British citizenship on December 19, 2013, following which he ceased to be an Indian citizen. However, the ED alleged that he concealed the acquisition of British citizenship and continued to present himself as an Indian citizen. The investigation further found that Khan allegedly continued to use his surrendered Indian passport, PAN, Aadhaar and voter ID to purchase immovable properties in Sant Kabir Nagar, the agency said. The ED also alleged that despite acquiring British citizenship, Khan continued to work as an assistant teacher at a government-aided madrasa in Mubarakpur, Azamgarh, and received salary and retirement benefits from the Uttar Pradesh government.According to the agency, an inquiry conducted by the minority welfare and waqf department, Uttar Pradesh government, found that Khan’s service during the period from 2007 to 2017 had not been verified.Despite this, he was granted voluntary retirement in 2017 along with regular pension benefits. The ED said an amount of Rs 53.46 lakh was credited to Khan’s bank account from the state exchequer towards salary, pension and General Provident Fund (GPF).The agency has treated the amount as proceeds of crime under the PMLA.As the funds had allegedly been dissipated, the ED said it attached the immovable property of equivalent value to secure the alleged proceeds of crime. The agency said it had earlier conducted searches at two premises on February 11, 2026, in connection with the case, during which incriminating documents were seized under the provisions of the PMLA.The ED said further investigation is underway.
