Bhubaneswar: The BRICS technical meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, being held under India’s BRICS Presidency, will take place in Puri from June 3 to 5. Representatives and specialists from BRICS nations will attend to discuss disaster management, resilience measures and international collaboration. Delegations from countries including Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE and China are expected to participate.According to a govt statement issued on Monday, Odisha was chosen to host the meeting in view of its strong track record in disaster preparedness and response. The statement highlighted the state’s internationally recognised cyclone management, community-based early warning systems and effective rescue and evacuation efforts.The meeting is expected to support knowledge-sharing among participating countries, encourage dialogue on emerging technologies and coordinated strategies, and deepen cooperation on disaster risk reduction. The govt statement added that hosting the event in Puri will also help present Odisha’s disaster management capabilities on a global platform and strengthen the state’s international profile.
