Ranchi: A state-level awareness programme marking World Breastfeeding Week was organised at Sadar Hospital on Saturday, with health officials and experts stressing the importance of early and exclusive breastfeeding to improve maternal and child health. The week-long campaign will be observed from Saturday to Friday. NHM director (Jharkhand) Shashi Prakash Jha urged mothers to initiate breastfeeding within the first hour of birth and exclusively breastfeed infants for the first six months.
