Bengaluru: Bengaluru and several parts of Karnataka are likely to witness a fresh spell of rain and gusty winds this week, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the formation of a new low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.According to IMD, an east-west trough running from North-Central Karnataka to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation off the Odisha coast, is setting the stage for this weather system. IMD issued multiple weather alerts Monday.“This is likely to bring moderate-to-light rainfall to several areas of south and north Karnataka,” said CS Patil, senior scientist, IMD Bengaluru.A red alert has been issued for coastal, north, and parts of south Karnataka districts, with heavy rain expected from Tuesday until Saturday. For Bengaluru and adjoining regions, IMD predicts light-to-moderate rain and persistent breezy conditions, with wind speed between 40kmph and 50kmph.IMD has urged residents, especially in coastal areas, to remain cautious, as intermittent heavy downpours could lead to localised flooding and disruption of daily life. Bengaluru is expected to stay cloudy throughout the week, with short spells of rainfall and strong winds continuing.
