Patna: A 14-year-old boy was detained on Friday for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in a rented house in Patna district. The families of the victim and the accused live in the same building in separate portions.According to police, the incident occurred when the child’s mother briefly stepped out for shopping, leaving the girl alone at home. Taking advantage of the absence of other family members, the accused teenager allegedly sexually assaulted the child.When the mother returned a short while later, she found the girl in serious condition and raised an alarm. Family members alerted the police immediately. A team reached the spot and took the accused juvenile into custody the same evening.The girl was first taken to the nearest community health centre for initial medical care. Owing to the seriousness of her condition, doctors referred her to Patna for a mandatory medical examination and further treatment.Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s father, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.Fatuha sub-divisional police officer-I Awadhesh Kumar confirmed the detention and said the accused was being questioned. “A forensic team was called to the spot to collect evidence, and the clothes of both the victim and the accused have been preserved for examination,” he said on Saturday.
