Nagpur: Ruling party leader in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Narendra (Balya) Borkar on Thursday pulled up committee chairpersons and members over reported differences among them, while asking them to maintain coordination while functioning.Two days ago, a Transport Committee meeting had to be cancelled due to absence of members. The incident triggered discussions within the civic body about resentment among committee members. Several corporators also reportedly approached Borkar with complaints against committee chairpersons, including allegations that funds were not being sanctioned.On Thursday, Borkar reviewed the functioning of the committees. Mayor Neeta Thakre and Standing Committee chairperson Shivani Dani were present. Chairpersons and members of committees dealing with weaker sections, taxation, construction and projects, health, law, slum clearance and housing, sports, women and child welfare and water supply also attended the meeting.Borkar directed chairpersons and members not to allow personal differences to affect functioning of the civic body. Thakre said there was no resentment among the committees and described the situation as a lack of communication. She also denied allegations that the standing committee was withholding funds from corporators.“Funds are being to all corporators in phases,” Thakre said and added that the same approach was being followed for the Weaker Sections Committee.The meeting also discussed development of playgrounds and gardens. Borkar said officials from sports and garden departments were consulting all corporators for preparing a plan for 140 playgrounds and an equal number of gardens.The proposed development will take into account specific requirements of each location as well as popularity of different sports in respective Assembly constituencies, Borkar said.Chairpersons of transport, education and fire committees were conspicuous by their absence. Borkar said meetings of these committees would be held on September 1. He clarified that the Fire Committee chairperson was out of the city.
