Vadodara: A man wanted in a case involving the assault of two policemen was arrested by Narmada police in Nani Daman, 18 years after the incident. Akshay Baser was traced after Local Crime Branch (LCB) personnel received information about his whereabouts.Police said that in 2009, a team was keeping watch to intercept a vehicle suspected of transporting liquor in Narmada district. When the vehicle approached, the policemen tried to stop it, but Baser, who was driving, allegedly rammed the vehicle into two policemen and fled.The two policemen sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. An offence was registered against Baser, but he remained absconding despite efforts to trace him. Police said he has four prohibition cases registered against him in Narmada and Valsad districts.Narmada LCB PI R G Chaudhari said the team reviewed the details of the 2009 case and worked on leads to trace Baser. “We received information that he was in his hometown, following which we formed a team and arrested him,” he said.Police will now question Baser about his whereabouts during the 18 years he remained absconding.Police said the vehicle had overturned after hitting the two policemen and Baser fled from the spot. One person accompanying him was arrested at the scene.
