Surat: Six workers sustained burn injuries after a boiler explosion triggered a major fire at a textile dyeing unit in Udhna on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at Krishan Silk Mill, where an oil pipe near a ground-floor boiler caught fire, fire officials said.Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) received an emergency call at around 5pm and dispatched multiple firefighting vehicles to the site. According to fire officials, the blaze intensified after the boiler burst, rupturing oil pipelines on the ground floor and upper floors. The spilled oil caused the fire to spread across three storeys of the building. All six injured workers were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.Firefighting operations continued for nearly three hours before the blaze was brought under control. Around 80 fire personnel, along with 15 firefighting vehicles, were deployed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby industrial units.A fire department official said the oil spread across surfaces accelerated the fire’s movement between floors. However, the relatively low stock of textiles at the unit helped firefighters bring the situation under control and limit further damage.“The fire spread due to oil on the surfaces. There was not much textile stock in the unit, which helped us control the blaze quickly and prevent further damage,” the official said.Fire personnel have conducted a preliminary investigation at the site to establish the sequence of events leading to the explosion.
