Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday caught red-handed a sub-engineer attached to the BMC for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh in connection with permission for water drainage at the complainant’s construction site.The arrested accused was identified as Vishal Bhalchandra Vani. He works in the rainwater drainage department at BMC’s F/North division.Sources in the ACB said that Vani initially demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the complainant. As the complainant did not want to pay the accused, he approached the ACB on April 22 and lodged a complaint.During the verification conducted on April 22, it was found that Vani demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant in connection with the water discharge permission. He allegedly agreed to accept the bribe. The ACB laid a trap on Friday and caught him red-handed accepting Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant. He was produced before a court and sent to police custody till April 27.………
