Civic body workers repair the stretch from Sandha Chowk to Patia Station Road

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed repairs and restoration work on the damaged road stretch from Sandha Chowk to Patia Station Road in Patiagarh, days after the issue was highlighted during TOI’s Durga Devi Namastute campaign. The repaired stretch, located in ward 3, connects Patia village with Patia Station Road and is one of the key internal routes used by residents, students, office-goers and commuters. Residents had earlier complained that the road had become unsafe because of potholes, scattered loose stone chips and heavy dust, making daily travel difficult, especially for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. The worst-affected portion was from Sandha Chowk, near Nilakantheswar temple, to Patia Station Square. Local residents said the surface had deteriorated over time and required urgent attention as the road served as an important link between the village and the main road network.Following the report, BMC engineers inspected the damaged portions and took up repair work. The civic body completed the restoration and said the improved road would ensure safer and smoother movement for commuters.“Now, the road repair and restoration work has been completed and people would no longer have to commute on a pothole-ridden stretch,” said Sangram Barik, a resident of Patia.Himansu Sekhar Dash, secretary of the Patia village committee, said the condition of the road had been causing inconvenience for months. “Small stone chips were coming off the surface and dust used to rise whenever vehicles passed through the stretch. The road has now been repaired and people can travel smoothly,” he said.TOI had published a report on Oct 10 under the headline “Residents seek urgent repairs to damaged roads”, highlighting the concerns of Patia residents and seeking a response from the authorities. The civic body subsequently initiated inspection and repair measures. On Saturday, BMC wrote on its official handle, “BMC has completed road repair and restoration work along the stretch from Sandha Chowk to Patia Station Road in ward 3, improving road conditions and ensuring smoother, safer travel for commuters.”
