Mumbai: BMC’s assistant municipal commissioner Nitin Shukla arrested on charges of rape of an architect was remanded to police custody till April 30 by a magistrate.Meanwhile, municipal commissioner Ashwini Bhide said Shukla will be suspended from service considering that he has been in custody for 48 hours.Police while seeking his custody told the court it is a serious matter and the accused has not cooperated in the investigation and they need his custodial interrogation.Defence lawyer Sandeep Singh and Kaif Muzawar argued the FIR has been filed on false complaint. “Shukla is an honest officer and there are people behind him who have laid a honey trap on him. The relationship between him and the victim was very professional and more importantly there are procedural lapses in the arrest,” said Muzawar.According to the FIR registered on April 26, 2026, the complainant alleged that the accused developed a relationship with her in 2023 when she approached him for approvals related to a construction project.The complainant told the police that the accused allegedly proposed marriage to the complainant despite being married and assured her that he would divorce his wife. She has also accused him of physical assault, stalking, and sustained harassment through multiple social media platforms, emails, and messaging applications. The FIR stated the accused allegedly created fake accounts, circulated private content, and issued threats to defame her.
