MoU was exchanged by BLW deputy chief engineer Saket and VMC additional municipal commissioner Durgesh Mishra

Varanasi: Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) and Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) signed an MoU on Monday for the implementation of an integrated storm water drainage project worth Rs45.30 crore.The MoU was exchanged by BLW deputy chief engineer Saket and VMC additional municipal commissioner Durgesh Mishra. in the presence of BLW GM Ashutosh Pant and municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal.The project involves the construction of an integrated storm water drainage system covering around 14.20 kilometres from Pahadi Gate to Chitaipur Road. Of the total project cost, BLW will contribute Rs24 crore while VMC will contribute Rs21.30 crore.As part of the project, BLW will build interceptor drains within its premises while VMC will develop the required storm water drainage network in its areas.Once completed, the project is expected to protect railway quarters in BLW’s West Colony from rainwater damage and help ensure the long-term structural safety of the buildings. It will also provide lasting relief from waterlogging and monsoon-related commuting problems to thousands of residents living in Nagar Nigam areas adjoining BLW.
