Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s legal fight that started with their movie ‘It Ends With Us’ just got even messier, and now Britney Spears is caught in the middle. The feud between Lively and Baldoni has already grabbed a lot of public attention and made different camps inside Hollywood, as well as in their fanbases, but things have escalated. New reports say Lively’s lawyers are planning to use an old video clip of Baldoni talking about Britney Spears as part of their case when they head to court.

Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni: The Britney Spears twist in their legal battle

As per the latest information, reported by Page Six, Lively’s legal team might decide to show a 2017 video where Baldoni shares a story about meeting Spears on the set of ‘Jane the Virgin’. In the clip, Baldoni admits he went up to Spears, gave her a big hug out of excitement, and immediately worried he had crossed a line. The conversation went as follows.“I had gone up to her and in my mind, we’re friends,” he said with a laugh. “We weren’t.”“And I went up and I gave her … I went, ‘Hey!,’ and I gave her a big hug and I think I scared her, because she was like, ‘Hi,’ and I just had this awkward moment of, like, ‘Did I just harass Britney Spears?’” he joked in the interview, clearly a little embarrassed. For the unversed, Baldoni played Rafael Solano on the CW’s ‘Jane the Virgin’, which ran for five seasons from 2014-2019, and Spears guest-starred in an episode during season 2 of the series, playing an exaggerated version of herself. Now, Baldoni originally told this story with some humor and self-awareness. But Lively’s lawyers think it could help paint a picture. They want to argue that Baldoni admits to past behavior that, at the very least, comes off as inappropriate. If they’re successful, this could back up Lively’s claims about how he acted on the set of ‘It Ends With Us’.The Daily Mail reported Lively will try to convince the jury that Baldoni’s hug with Spears shows a pattern, from how he treated Spears to how he treated her. Lively’s big accusation is that Baldoni sexually harassed her during filming in 2024, but a judge already dismissed that part of her lawsuit this month.

The ‘It Ends With Us’ legal battles: How it started?

For the unversed, the ‘It Ends With Us’ legal battle started in 2024 when Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, her co-star and director in the movie.Back in 2024, Lively sued Baldoni, claiming he sexually harassed her, walked into her trailer when she was dressing, pushed for intimate scenes that weren’t in the script, and touched her in ways she didn’t want. She says that when she spoke up, she got punished for it, with hit pieces in the press and a campaign against her.Baldoni has denied everything, saying there was no harassment, only creative disagreements and maybe a misunderstanding or two that got fixed. In April 2026, Federal Judge Lewis Liman dismissed 10 of Lively’s 13 claims, including all sexual harassment allegations, leaving only three claims to proceed to trial. Lively’s case now centers on three issues: breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding retaliation. So at this point, the case is less about what happened between Lively and Baldoni on set, and more about what Lively says happened after she raised her complaints, especially whether Baldoni or his team tried to hurt her reputation or career. After the April 2026 hearing, the trial in New York is set for May 18, 2026.
