Itanagar: Senior BJP leader Tai Tagak has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Arunachal Pradesh, an official statement said on Thursday.Assembly secretary and returning officer Tadar Meena declared the result after the withdrawal period for candidatures was closed at 3:00 pm.Tagak was the lone candidate, who had filed his nomination papers, for the seat, prompting Meena to declare the result in pursuance of the provisions contained under sub-section (2)/sub-section (3) of Section 53 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, read with sub-rule (1) of Rule 11 of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.The official certificate was handed over to Taigak at a ceremony held at the Nokmey Namati Hall in Itanagar, which was attended by chief electoral officer and observer Pawan Kumar Sain, joint CEO Liken Koyu and assistant returning officer Longman Ronrang, besides senior members from the state’s party unit.Meanwhile, Tagak called on speaker Tesam Pongte at his chamber, where the latter congratulated him for being elected unopposed and wished him success. –
