Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), if voted to power in Kerala, would investigate alleged corruption under the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and previous United Democratic Front (UDF) governments, citing rising debt and a “lack of development”.

Addressing rallies in Palakkad and Thrissur, Modi said Kerala’s debt has climbed to about Rs 5 lakh crore, with the loan burden having tripled over the past decade. “The money has ended up in the pockets of the LDF,” he alleged.

Accusing both fronts of alternating in power without accountability, Modi said the LDF and UDF had “taken turns to loot” the state and issued only “empty threats” against each other. “If the BJP comes to power, we will investigate all scams and recover every penny from the corrupt. This prospect is causing sleepless nights for both these parties,” he said.

‘B-team’ charge

Seeking to counter the ongoing war of words between the Indian National Congress and the CPI(M) over being each other’s “B-team”, Modi said the LDF and UDF were two sides of the same coin that merely pretend to be opponents.

He urged voters to remain alert amid Congress’ claims of a tacit understanding between the CPI(M) and BJP in some seats. Modi pointed out that both Congress and Left parties are part of the INDI Alliance and have worked together in other states.
Women’s SafetyWhile the NDA has empowered a daughter from a humble family to the highest office of the nation, the Congress and Left leaders have become a threat to women’s safety, the PM said, referring to the reports of expulsion by the Congress of a municipal councillor in Palakkad over allegations of sexual harassment. “This is the alarming reality of these parties that the women of Kerala must stay vigilant against.”

Claiming that public support for the NDA was rising in Kerala, Modi said the state was “sending a clear message for change” and promised accelerated development if voted to power. “This is Modi’s guarantee,” he said.

Earlier, Modi held a road show in Thrissur, which is represented in the Lok Sabha by actor-turned-politician, MoS Suresh Gopi.
