Pune: Former Union minister and BJP’s Kerala in-charge Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said rising anti-incumbency and corruption allegations against the govt in power would help the BJP bring about a change in the southern state — which has either had the Left Democratic Front (LDF) or the United Democratic Front (UDF) ruling the roost for nearly seven decades. He told reporters in Pune that the two alliances had at different times formed the govt in Kerala for over 70 years, but had failed to deliver development. “People there are now evaluating the Centre’s work and it has changed the existing political atmosphere in the state,” he said.Javadekar was appointed BJP’s Kerala in-charge around four years ago. He said the party’s vote share has steadily increased. “Our vote percentage has gone up from around 2% during the Jan Sangh era to nearly 20% now. Today, nearly 30% voters support the BJP in about 40 to 45 assembly constituencies. We are confident of bringing change in Kerala during the upcoming assembly elections,” he said.He said the BJP’s recent victory in the municipal polls in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram had boosted the morale of party workers. Meanwhile, Javadekar alleged that the Kerala’s ruling alliance was facing multiple corruption charges, including those linked to religious boards. In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP had won a single seat. Currently, they have one elected MP, who won in 2024. Kerala is likely to go to polls in April, as the tenure of the present government ends in May.
