Thane: Fresh cracks have surfaced within the ruling Mahayuti in Thane, with the BJP on Tuesday threatening to boycott future govt inauguration ceremonies—and even hold parallel inaugurations—accusing ally Shiv Sena of systematically sidelining its leaders at high-profile public events. The latest flashpoint was Sunday’s mega inauguration of civic projects worth several hundred crores, presided over by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, where BJP leaders alleged they were either not invited or were informed too late to attend. In a strongly worded media statement, BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar alleged that senior party functionaries, including MLAs, MLCs, deputy mayor and other key office-bearers, were either not invited or were informed too late, laying bare the growing unease within the alliance.“This is not an isolated incident but a recurring pattern,” Kelkar said. “Our ally appears to view the alliance as an electoral compulsion while monopolising the political spotlight at govt-funded events. Names may appear on invitation cards, but every effort is made to ensure BJP leaders cannot attend.”
