Silchar: A master plan, a centralised Jal Board and measures to tackle waterlogging are among BJP’s key promises for the Oct 3 Silchar Municipal Corporation election.Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia released the party’s Sankalp Patra at Banga Bhavan on Friday in the presence of ministers Jayanta Malla Baruah and Kaushik Rai.The document focuses on urban infrastructure and civic services, promising improved drainage, measures to address waterlogging, uninterrupted drinking-water supply, better roads and footpaths, public toilets, CCTV cameras and street lights. It also proposes steps to make Silchar a garbage-free and greener city.“Our goal is to make Silchar a well-managed and planned city in the coming years,” Saikia said, expressing confidence that voters would give BJP a “historic” mandate in the maiden SMC election.The party has proposed a Bhasha Udyan, govt-run coaching centres for NEET and JEE aspirants, and skill-development centres to improve employment opportunities for young people.Rai said a centralised Jal Board would be established on the lines of Guwahati by integrating existing drinking-water infrastructure and agencies, including PHE and urban water and sewerage systems.Baruah said waterlogging remained a major civic challenge and that govt would continue addressing Silchar’s infrastructure needs.
