Chandigarh: The BJP delivered a dominant performance in the May 10 Haryana civic body elections, winning six out of seven key posts across six districts, according to results announced Wednesday.The party secured mayoral victories in Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat municipal corporations, tightening its political grip on the state just two months after a closely fought Rajya Sabha election. This sweeping victory is seen as a big win for chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. Political observers credit the success to a combination of aggressive campaigning and a highly disciplined booth-level organisational network. Beyond the mayoral seats, the BJP’s won nearly 90% of the ward seats in Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat, leaving the Congress far behind. The momentum continued through the municipal council and committee levels. Vineeta Pippal won the Rewari municipal council president’s post, Parveen Coach took Sampla, and Dharuhera also went to the BJP. The ruling party’s only major loss occurred in the Uklana municipal committee, where independent candidate Reena Soni—backed by an opposition coalition—claimed the president’s post. In Rewari, independents secured 18 wards, the BJP took 12, and the Congress managed only two. Chief minister Saini and Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli credited the victory to the dedication of party workers and public faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda. Saini said the results reflect a triple-engine govt that the people of Haryana trust to lead the state forward. On the other hand, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda argued that the Congress’ vote share has grown and that they are now contesting seriously in areas where they previously had little presence.
