Silchar: BJP national spokesperson Prem Shukla on Monday launched a sharp attack on Congress and its Assam president Gaurav Gogoi, accusing the party of indulging in “anti-national politics” and working against the country’s unity.Addressing the media at the BJP office in Itkhola, Shukla alleged that Congress has a long history of weakening the nation and claimed senior leader Rahul Gandhi had also attempted to divide the country through his political actions.

With BJP in power at the Centre and in Assam, Shukla said no force could separate the seven northeastern states from the rest of India. He said BJP-led governments had ensured peace, security, and development across the region.Accusing Congress of following a “dangerous political pattern”, Shukla alleged that the party sympathised with and patronised divisive forces. “They are not only sympathising, they are also patronising,” he said, without citing specific examples.Backing Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Shukla said the CM’s stand against such politics was justified. He further alleged that the Congress had turned into a “Muslim League,” claiming that the conduct and statements of some of its leaders raised serious questions and suggested links with Pakistan — allegations the Congress has repeatedly denied.Shukla also spoke at length on the recent Union Budget, praising its focus on development, welfare, and inclusive growth. He said the budget would directly benefit the people of Assam, particularly the poor and marginalised sections.“BJP govt is working with a clear vision for Assam’s future, while Congress remains stuck in divisive and negative politics,” he said, adding that voters could clearly see the difference between the two parties.Barak Valley development department minister Kaushik Rai, Cachar BJP president Rupam Saha, and former Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy were also present at the press conference. They echoed similar views and expressed confidence in the BJP’s policies and leadership.
